Ripple Mattresses for Hospitals and Care Facilities

Published 1 June 2026Last updated 19 August 2026

Ripple mattresses appear in Kenyan hospital tenders as alternating pressure air mattress or APAM, usually specified with pump, minimum weight rating and a wipe-clean fluid-resistant cover. General wards typically use bubble type overlays for prevention. ICU, high dependency and patients with existing ulcers typically use tubular column systems. Ripple Mattresses Kenya supplies both to facilities in Nairobi and countrywide, with quantity pricing on request and invoicing for procurement. Clinical guidance on pressure ulcer prevention and risk assessment is published by NICE (CG179).

Short answer

Ripple Mattresses Kenya supplies alternating pressure mattresses in quantity to hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, clinics and county health facilities across Kenya. For institutional orders we provide written quotations on request, specification sheets for tender submissions, quantity pricing above five units, delivery to the facility, and setup briefing for ward staff. Contact us on 0710 470 180 with the quantity, the ward type and any specification requirements from your procurement documents, and we will return a quotation. We supply both bubble type sets for general ward prevention and tubular column type for high dependency and existing ulcers.

What we supply to institutions

Choosing the right mix for your wards

Most facilities over-buy one type and under-buy the other. The usable rule is to match the surface to the risk assessment already in use on the ward. Patients scoring at low or moderate risk on Braden or Waterlow are well served by bubble type prevention surfaces, which are cheaper and lighter to move between beds. Patients at high or very high risk, patients who are unconscious or fully immobile, bariatric patients, and anyone with a stage 2 or worse ulcer need tubular column surfaces. A typical general ward mix runs around three bubble sets to one column set, adjusted by case mix.

If your tender specifies a requirement not listed here, send us the document and we will confirm in writing whether we can meet it rather than guessing on the quotation.

Infection control and cleaning between patients

The cover should be wiped down with a facility-approved disinfectant between patients, then dried fully before reuse. Do not autoclave, do not immerse the pump, and do not use undiluted bleach, which degrades PVC and shortens cover life considerably. Pump filters should be inspected monthly in ward use, more often in dusty environments. Keep a small stock of replacement filters and connectors on site, because a clogged filter presenting as a failed mattress is the single most common avoidable downtime we see in Kenyan facilities.

Requesting a quotation

To get a quotation back quickly, send us the quantity required, the split between bubble and column type if you know it, the ward or facility name and delivery location, any specification requirements from your procurement documents, and the format you need for your file, whether that is a quotation, a proforma invoice or a specification sheet. Call or WhatsApp 0710 470 180. For county and public facility procurement, tell us the tender reference and closing date so we can turn documents around in time.

Common questions

Do you supply hospitals in bulk?

Yes. We supply hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, clinics and county facilities across Kenya, with quantity pricing above five units.

Can you provide a proforma invoice for procurement?

Yes. We provide written quotations, proforma invoices and specification sheets for procurement and tender files on request.

What mix of mattress types should a general ward order?

As a starting point, roughly three bubble type prevention surfaces to one tubular column type, then adjust to your ward's case mix and risk assessment scores.

Do you supply replacement pumps and tubes separately?

Yes. Keeping spare pumps, tubes, connectors and filters on site prevents a single component failure from taking a whole set out of service.

Do you deliver to facilities outside Nairobi?

Yes, countrywide. Tell us the facility and location when requesting the quotation and we will include delivery in the figure.
